Poor first half burns the Dragons

The Holyoke girls basketball team lost its second game of the season Friday, Dec. 9, at home to Class 2A No. 10 Simla.

Simla started its season with losses to ranked Wiggins and Limon, but used its full-court press to disrupt any rhythm Holyoke attempted to establish early in the game.

A first-quarter basket by Elise Krogmeier gained the Dragons’ only two points of the first half.

As Simla relaxed its press in the second half, Holyoke had better offensive flow.

Audrey Talavera broke free for four points in the third quarter to go with a 3-pointer by Hannah Lindholm.

Anessa Colglazier and Krogmeier also knocked down shots from the field, helping the Dragons outscore Simla 11-8 in the third quarter.

Holyoke continued to keep pace over the final eight minutes of the game, behind four more points from Colglazier and five by Krogmeier, to wrap up the 22-48 loss.
