Regionals call for another long trek to Meeker

    Taking second place in the district tournament last weekend, Holyoke High School’s girls basketball advanced to regionals ranked 14th. As such, the Dragons will play Denver Christian (No. 19) in the first round of regional competition Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m. in Meeker. Meeker (No. 3) will play Dolores (No. 30) at 5:30 p.m. The winners of those two games will play for the Region 3 championship Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m.
    Other District 2 teams playing in the first round of regionals Friday are Yuma (No. 2) hosting Dayspring (No. 31), Wiggins (No. 32) at Limon (No. 1), and Wray (No. 9) playing Burlington (No. 24) at Ignacio.
    The championship team from each of the eight regional brackets will go on to compete in the Colorado 2A state tournament at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland on March 7-9.
