Regular season comes to an end for GBB

The regular season came to a close for the Holyoke girls basketball team with a 26-41 loss to Akron.

The postseason was quick to start. The Dragons played at Wiggins Tuesday in the first round of the District 2 tournament. A recap of the game will be available in next week’s Enterprise.

A host of familiar faces are at the top of the Class 2A seeding index.

Merino is the No. 1, followed by Wiggins, Sedgwick County and Akron. All four teams are in District 2, as are Caliche, Wray and Haxtun.

After Tuesday’s first-round games, the tournament moves to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, for semifinal games Thursday, and the first-and third-place games Saturday.

Holyoke’s offense was slow to get going last week against Akron.

The Dragons’ first five points were all free throws, with two by Elise Krogmeier being Holyoke’s only points of the first quarter. Audrey Talavera hit two 3s, the Dragons’ only first-half field goals, and two free throws in the second quarter.

Holyoke didn’t make any 2-point field goals in the game. Grace Roberts and Talavera each made two 3-pointers in the second half.

Talavera scored a game-high 16 points. Roberts added six points and Krogmeier scored four points.

Krogemeier and Roberts each pulled down eight rebounds.
