Schneller qualifies for state in each of 4 events at season opener

In her first-ever high school swim meet, Holyoke’s Rylee Schneller walked away with four qualifying times for the 2018 Colorado 3A state meet. Two of those times were in the 200-yard medley relay with Anna Jelden, Regan Van Overbeke and Lali Marquez, and the 200-yard freestyle relay with Van Overbeke, Marquez and Traeli Hutches.
To say it was a satisfying start to the girls swim season is an understatement. Coach Adria Colver explained that the 200-yard medley relay was the first event of the day at the Dec. 2 Valley Invite in Gilcrest. To qualify for state first-thing in the morning set the tone for the entire meet.
As is traditional, Holyoke swam against some big schools at the Valley Invite, with only 13 on their own team. In the 50-yard freestyle event, there were over 100 swimmers.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Holyoke’s team placed fifth with a time of 2:09.6. The HHS state-qualifying 200-yard freestyle relay team placed fourth with a time of 1:53.62.
    Schneller’s other qualifying events were the 200-yard individual medley, fourth-place, 2:29.62 and the 100-yard breaststroke, fifth-place, 1:16.77.
Other highlights for Holyoke’s team were Van Overbeke’s seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 2:19.66 and her ninth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:21.38.
Marquez placed eighth in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:12.21.
