Shaw heads to state swim

    HS junior Keegan Shaw earned a 4A state qualifying time in the 100-yard freestyle March 10, in the second meet of the season.
    Shaw swims with the Valley Vikings team and will compete this weekend in the 4A boys state swimming championships at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
    Prelims are set for Friday, May 18, at 4 p.m., with finals Saturday, May 19, at 3 p.m.
    His :54.87 time punched Shaw’s ticket to the state meet early in the season.
    “Keegan has had an incredible season his junior year,” said Holyoke coach Aly Brinkema. “His dedication to training over a period of six-plus months has produced major time drops, and it is quite an accomplishment to achieve a state cut in the 4A division,” she added.
    This is not Shaw’s first trip to state. As a freshman, he swam the second leg of Valley’s 200-yard freestyle relay in the state prelims and also qualified on the team’s 200-yard medley relay.
