Shaw is state qualifier
In the second meet of the season, HHS junior Keegan Shaw qualified for the 4A boys state swimming meet in an individual event.
Shaw and HHS senior Drew Stewart are again competing with Gilcrest’s Valley High School swimming and diving team through a co-op agreement. They train at the Holyoke pool with coaches Aly Brinkema and Adria Colver.
“Both are valued members of the team and have kicked off the 2018 season with fast times,” said Brinkema.
At a triangular at Valley with Estes Park and Silver Creek Thursday, March 15, Shaw turned in an outstanding performance in the 100-yard freestyle event, said Brinkema, with a time of 0:53.49 to win first place and qualify for state. The 4A state meet will be held at the Air Force Academy May 18-19.
Shaw also placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.73.
Stewart finished seventh in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:27.08 and seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:34.97.
Shaw and Stewart swam on two fifth-place relays: 200-yard medley, 2:12.27, and 200-yard freestyle, 1:55.76.
