Softball season ends in sweep by Cougars on Saturday

Holyoke Dragon softball ended Saturday, Oct. 3, at home against Burlington when the Cougars swept the Dragons 13-1 and 9-3. The Dragons ended their season with a 7-9 record.

Coach Sherman Kage said he is excited for what the future holds for Holyoke softball.

“Overall, I was satisfied with the season,” he said. “Ultimately it didn’t end the way we wanted, but I see a lot of growth and potential in the young talent of this team that makes the future look exciting for us.”

He acknowledged that senior Haley Van Overbeke will be missed not just for her pitching and production at the plate, but her overall leadership on the team.

Kage also noted that five of the nine consistent starters this season are underclassmen, and they have shown a lot of growth and have developed their softball IQ this year. He expects that trend to continue as they grow as players.
