Softball struggles against Alliance
Holyoke softball struggled both offensively and defensively at a Sept. 28 game in Alliance, Nebraska, walking away with a 1-9 loss to the Bulldogs.
While the teams started out close, Alliance pulled away quickly and shut Holyoke out of all but one inning.
Coach Sherman Kage said the team batted well, but that Alliance defense was able to field nearly every play by Holyoke. Minor defensive holes for the Dragons became major issues as Alliance dragged out inning after inning.
“We just had an off day. We hit well, but Alliance made some great defensive plays,” he explained.
Holyoke 1, Alliance 9
Holyoke appeared to be in control of the game for the first two innings, before a drive by Alliance put the Dragons in the hole by five runs and set up a three-run push in the fifth inning to end the game.
Despite being shut out, both teams advanced runners in the first inning, and Lauren Herman made it as far as third base before a pop out put Holyoke in the field.
