Softball team swept by Limon
The Lady Dragon softball team lost two games on the home field against Limon 13-0 and 12-0 on Saturday, Sept. 25, to drop to 7-9 on the season.
Coach Sherman Kage said he was pleased with the way the girls played defensively, specifically with bunt coverage.
“Regardless of what the score reflected, I thought we played well defensively,” he said, noting that bunt coverage is something the team’s been working on.
Offensively, Kage said they just couldn’t hit. “It was hard for us to get anything started,” he said. He added that the girls will continue to work to improve offensively as they head into a busy few days with games against Alliance, Nebraska, Burlington and Yuma on the horizon.
Holyoke 0, Limon 13
Limon got a baserunner aboard with an infield hit in the first inning who eventually came around to score the game’s first run.
The Lady Dragons were retired in order in both the first and second innings. The Badgers got two runners on base in their half of the second, but Holyoke defense held strong and did not allow a run.
Limon broke out in the top of the third and pushed 10 runs across to stretch their lead to 11-0.
Elyce Sisseck hit a single in the home half of the third inning but didn’t score. This was Holyoke’s only hit in the first game.
Limon tacked two more insurance runs on in the fourth inning, and the Lady Dragons were retired in order in the bottom of the fourth for the 13-0 final.
Aliyah Engle pitched all four innings for Holyoke. She faced 32 batters, striking out four and walking five. She allowed 13 earned runs on 13 hits.
Sisseck stole one base to lead the Lady Dragons.
