Softball wins 3 in tournament
Holyoke softball season got off to a hot start last week with three wins and a loss at a nonplacing tournament at Platte Valley High School in Kersey on Friday-Saturday, Aug. 20-21.
The Lady Dragons defeated Yuma 7-3 and Platte Valley 15-8 on Friday. They beat Alamosa 17-1 and lost to Greeley Central 5-2 on Saturday.
Coach Sherman Kage said as soon as Yuma scored first in the opening game, it was like something clicked with the Holyoke players. They battled back in that game and kept the offense up in the next two games.
“Our bats came alive,” Kage said. “We were being disciplined at the plate.” He also noted that the girls made very few errors in the field and really set the tone offensively.
Kage said that moving forward, they will work on sustaining momentum to ensure they finish strong when playing consecutive games.
