State golf tournament cut short by snow in Eagle

Eighty-four golfers went into the May 20-21 Colorado 3A state golf tournament expecting to play 36 holes over two days, but Mother Nature had other plans. Monday course conditions were wet and cold — far from ideal for golfing — but competitors did manage to get the first round done.
By Tuesday morning, however, it was clear that the second round would go unplayed because of snow on the course, and the results from day one became the official state standings, per CHSAA regulations.
Holyoke High School was represented by Brenna Sullivan and Traeli Hutches, both competing on the state level for the first time. It was the also the first time in the HHS girls golf program’s history to have two golfers compete in a state tournament.
Going into the championship, coach Nick Flaa explained, the Dragons had a secondary goal to compete well against the other golfers from northeast Colorado. To that end, Sullivan boasted the top state performance among the region’s golfers, and Hutches was fifth of the 13 girls competing from this corner of the state.
