State tourney begins Thursday in Loveland

Colorado basketball teams and fans are prepping for a big weekend of action as the state tournament kicks off this Thursday, March 12. The 2A boys and girls will be playing at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland except for the consolation championship game, which will be played at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley on Saturday.

The Holyoke girls are seeded No. 2 and will face No. 7 Ignacio on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Loveland. If the Lady Dragons win, they play at 4 p.m. Friday, and if they lose, they play at 11:45 a.m. Friday.

Thursday’s lineup also includes No. 4 Del Norte vs. No. 5 Wray at 8:45 a.m., No. 3 Rye vs. No. 6 Sanford at 11:45 a.m. and No. 1 Limon vs. No. 8 Holly at 4 p.m.

The tournament wraps up on Saturday with the girls third-place game at 10 a.m., the consolation championship at 4 p.m. (in Greeley) and the championship at 7 p.m.

The 2A boys bracket kicks off Thursday in Loveland with No. 4 Sanford vs. No. 5 Wray at 10:15 a.m., followed by No. 3 Yuma vs. No. 6 Fowler at 1:15 p.m., No. 2 Limon vs. No. 7 Peyton at 5:30 p.m. and No. 1 Highland vs. No. 8 Ignacio at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the boys third-place game is at 11:30 a.m., the consolation championship is at 2:30 p.m. (in Greeley) and the championship finishes out the day at 8:30 p.m.

Other area teams at state include the Merino boys, who have entered the 1A tournament as the No. 6 seed, and the Fleming girls are seeded No. 4.
