Success, disappointment felt at state wrestling tournament

Successful first-round wins on the Colorado 2A State wrestling mats Thursday, Feb. 21, led to disappointing losses on Friday to end the 2018-19 season for 145-lb. senior Jesus Trejo and 160-lb. junior Luis Chafino.
Many positives can be said for their accomplishments on the road to state and in the big tourney.
The weekend marked Trejo’s first win at state in his fourth trip to the Big Show at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Finishing his season 32-15, Trejo had a respectable end to his high school career.
Chafino finished 30-13 for the season, and his two losses on Friday were one-point heartbreakers.
He suffered a 6-7 loss in four overtimes in first-round consolations, then was defeated 2-3 Friday evening. He was leading 2-1 in that match until the last 4 seconds when he was taken down for the loss.
