Swimmers dive into action with Dec. 5 season opener

With a focus on building team integrity and cohesion both in the pool and out, the Holyoke girls swim team will open its season Thursday, Dec. 5, in a dual at Eaton, starting at 5 p.m.

The next day, the girls will compete at the Valley Invitational in Gilcrest at 5 p.m.

Emphasizing the team’s focus, coach Aly Brinkema said, “Any success we may have in competition this season will be a direct result of the individual and collective efforts made when no one is watching or cheering.”

Brinkema is assisted in coaching again this year by Adria Colver.

No seniors graduated from the team last year, and nine returning letterwinners are back to kick off what hopes to be another great season.

Returning letterwinners are seniors Traeli Hutches, Lali Marquez and Jackie Valenzuela; juniors Amy Mackay, Rylee Schneller and Haley Van Overbeke; sophomores Josie Schlachter and Danielle Wilkening; and homeschooler Eva Kramer.
