Swimmers earn 5 firsts at Eaton

Diving into their first meet of the season at the Eaton dual Friday, Jan. 29, Lady Dragon swimmers earned five first-place finishes.

“We came out strong in the first half with three wins before the diving break and secured two more first-place finishes in the second half,” said coach Aly Brinkema.

She and coach Adria Colver were extremely pleased with the team’s performance after two weeks of intense training.

“Nerves were high at our first meet since March of 2020, but the ladies quickly adapted to the COVID measures and raced above coaches’ expectations,” Brinkema added.

Freshman Tayla Martin nabbed two first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

Josie Schlachter won the 100-yard freestyle, Summer Martin finished first in the 200-yard freestyle, and Holyoke’s 200-yard medley relay team with Haley Van Overbeke, Rylee Schneller, Tayla Martin and Summer Martin also claimed top honors.
