Swimmers qualify for state in 4 events at Berthoud invite

The Berthoud Break the Ice swim meet on Dec. 10 was, in a word, incredible. Holyoke High School Coach Emily Krogmeier said that all of the Dragon athletes in attendance “came to swim” and the competition was amazing.

“All of these girls are eager to learn and it shows at competition,” she said. “They take what [Coach Dani Brandt] and I have to say and they are constantly working to improve.”

Holyoke’s 200-yard medley relay, which included Aly Lock, Summer Martin, Tayla Martin and Addie Goldenstein, earned 12th place and qualified for state with a time of 2:10.84. Individually, Tayla qualified in the 100-yard butterfly with an 11th-place time of 1:04.97 and the 100-yard backstroke with a ninth-place time of 1:06.82. Summer qualified in the 200-yard freestyle with 12th-place finish and a time of 2:17.05.

Summer also earned a 10th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking 0:27.98. In the same event, Goldenstein swam a 0:29.82, Lock a 0:31.74 and Grace Bahnsen 0:48.98. Krogmeier commended Bahnsen, who is still new to the sport, for continuing to post personal bests and always improving from race to race.

Goldenstein also competed in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:16.33. In the 100-yard backstroke, Lock clocked a 1:17.13 and Bahnsen a 2:10.61.
