Swimmers ready for state after conference
Lady Dragon swimmers competed at the Patriot Conference swim meet last Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5, at Edora Pool Ice Center in Fort Collins, and six have qualified for state swimming at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12.
Tayla Martin, Summer Martin, Josie Schlachter, Adison Goldenstein, Correy Koellner and Aly Lock have all qualified for state competition. Aliyah Engle, Erin Andersen and Destanie Engle will be alternates.
At state, Tayla Martin will be swimming in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. She also qualified in the 200-yard IM, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay and 100-yard backstroke.
Summer Martin will compete in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. She also qualified in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Schlachter will swim in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay at state.
Goldenstein will swim in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Koellner in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Lock in the 200-yard medley relay.
The Lady Dragons put up 312 team points at the conference meet, behind only Liberty Common with 594 and Eaton with 406. Estes Park had 229, and Valley 100.
“I am so proud of the girls,” coach Emily Krogmeier said. “Their hard work paid off, and we saw quite a few significant time drops. The improvement from all of the girls during the season was incredible.”
