Technique develops in youth wrestling

Varying levels of technique were on display at the Holyoke Youth Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Feb. 29.

More than 240 wrestlers from about 12 teams competed in the day’s event, and they attracted two gyms full of fans. Participants ranged in age from preschool to 15.

Emotions ran the full gamut from tears to smiles in exhilarating wins and disappointing losses. It’s all part of the learning curve of trying a new sport.

It was thrilling to watch coaches witness their young wrestlers use moves they’ve been taught at practice.
