Thompson, Andersen earn first-team all-conference honors

With a team win at the Akron Invite, the Holyoke girls golf team completed a sweep of its six league events and claimed the league title.

Holyoke gained an average score of 300 throughout league play, well ahead of Burlington and Wray at 333, Akron at 348, and Yuma at 351.

Seniors Emma Thompson, 88, and Erin Andersen, 99, were both first-team all-conference.

The top five golfers from the 25 who competed at the varsity level received first-team honors.

Others on the first team were Kendall Velder, 94, Akron; Lauren Hays, 99, Burlington; and Addison Jones, 104, Wray.

Head Coach Nick Flaa credited Megan Walker, Rozlynn Crossland, Emma Henry and Jimena Nuñez for playing important roles for Holyoke in varsity events this season.

“We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish our team feats without them! All four of them had many highlights,” Flaa said.

Nuñez, a senior, spent three seasons on the team and has been a great asset to the Dragons, Flaa said.

The Akron Invite marked the end of the JV season. Marely Favela, Roslynne Doorn, Gracelyn Bahnsen and Nuñez were on the course.

Flaa said freshmen Favela, Doorn and Bahnsen, who were playing their first year of golf, showed some growth this season and have a good understanding of the game.

In varsity competition, Flaa said the Washington County Course is wide open with not may obstacles.
