Tracksters finish 3rd at Yuma

After a snowy weekend, Holyoke track and field competed in the rescheduled Yuma Early Qualifier meet last Tuesday, March 24, with both boys and girls placing third.
Holyoke boys earned 84 points, finishing behind Sedgwick County with 164 and Wray with 102, with 20 teams competing.
HHS girls earned 72 points. Wray scored 121 to place first out of the 21 competing teams and Sedgwick County scored 73.
Coach Corey Koberstein said cooperative weather helped make for an “unbelievable” start to the Dragon season.
Sophomore Aaron Sierra and freshman Correy Koellner were both double winners for the Dragons. Sierra took first in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, while Koellner won the shot put and discus.
Another highlight of the day was junior Emily Jelden breaking her own school record in pole vault, which she set in state competition as a freshman, with a distance of 8 feet, 8 inches.
Luis Chafino also gained top honors for the Dragons, tying for first in the pole vault.
