Varsity basketball teams enter post-season play

    Holyoke High School boys and girls basketball teams were scheduled to play the first round of districts at home Feb. 20. Both HHS teams went into districts ranked No. 3, meaning they played the teams ranked No. 6 in round one. Girls played Wiggins, and HHS boys played Haxtun. Semifinals and finals for the District 2 tournament are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.
    Other boys matchups Tuesday were Yuma (No. 1) vs. Wiggins (No. 8) and Akron (No. 4) vs. Merino (No. 5), with the winners of each game set to play each other Friday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of Tuesday’s Sedgwick County (No. 2) vs. Wray (No. 7) game will play the winner of the Holyoke vs. Haxtun game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
    The winners of Friday’s games face off in the championship game Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The game for third place is Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
    Other girls games Tuesday were Yuma (No. 1) vs. Akron (No. 8) and Haxtun (No. 4) vs. Merino (No. 5), with the winners playing Friday at 3 p.m. The winner of the Wray (No. 2) vs. Sedgwick County (No. 7) game will play the winner of the Holyoke vs. Wiggins game Friday at 6 p.m.
    The winners of Friday’s games play in the championship game Saturday at 7 p.m. The third-place game is Saturday at 4 p.m.
