Volleyball keeps ball rolling after historic spring season
The Lady Dragon volleyball team is riding high after its first state tournament appearance in 20 years this spring and is keeping the ball rolling with the kickoff to the fall season later this month.
Last year at this time, Colorado High School Activities Association bumped the 2020 fall volleyball season to the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. The state tournament wrapped up the second week of May, and “we’ve been going solid ever since,” said Holyoke coach Michelle Vieselmeyer.
“It all meshed together,” she said, noting that the team participated in two summer camps and is now back on the court again for the “normal” fall season.
They have their sights set on another trip to state, so the momentum could definitely work to their advantage.
The Lady Dragons will be playing with a highly competitive league again this season. Wiggins is the defending 2A state champ, and Sedgwick County and Yuma also got experience on the state court in May.
Vieselmeyer said she doesn’t expect their rotation to change from the spring, but they’re adapting to a different mix of girls because some players either graduated or chose to play softball this fall.
