Volleyball takes Haxtun to 5 sets to start season
The Lady Dragons kicked off their fall volleyball season with a five-set loss to Haxtun on Thursday, Aug. 26, followed by two wins and two losses at a Saturday, Aug. 28, tournament at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.
Coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said the team has been establishing new positions for some of the players this year. “It will be an adjustment until we get comfortable with our roles.”
In Haxtun, the Lady Dragons narrowly won the first set 26-24, followed by two losses, 15-25 and 20-25. Holyoke battled hard to win the fourth set 25-23 but couldn’t keep the momentum, losing the final set 10-15.
“We gotta get our rhythm,” said Vieselmeyer, noting that the girls lost their focus a little bit.
On the stat sheet, Kristin Vieselmeyer led attacks with 51, including 23 kills. Setter Elyce Talavera handled the ball 129 times totaling 40 assists for kills.
Elise Krogmeier had the most serves with 20, including one ace, and Audrey Talavera topped the ace stats with three.
Krogmeier also led blocks with five. Tamara Penzing got her hands on 20 digs and 21 serve receives.
