Volleyball team looking for second straight trip to regionals

Holyoke High School volleyball players are jumping into the season this week with a game in Haxtun Friday, Aug. 30, at 4 p.m. followed by a junior varsity tournament in Alliance, Nebraska, Saturday at 10 a.m.

Although it’s a young team — 14 out of 20 players are underclassmen — the Lady Dragons are looking forward to getting back out onto the court. The team is led by returning letterwinners Josie Herman and Emily Jelden, both seniors, and Kristin Vieselmeyer, a sophomore.

Michelle Vieselmeyer is the new head coach, although she’s not new to the Dragon volleyball program. She has a decade of experience under her belt with roles varying from high school head coach to junior high to volunteer. Vieselmeyer brings with her two years of experience playing volleyball at Northeastern Junior College.

Assistant coach this year is Ashley Hoffner.

Vieselmeyer said the team put in some time on the court this summer and attended two camps in addition to putting on a local youth camp.
