Volleyball wins 2, loses 1 last week

Holyoke varsity volleyball came away with two wins and a loss last week to move their season record to 6-4. They lost at Fleming in four sets Tuesday, April 13, and beat both Haxtun and Wray in straight sets Friday, April 16.

“They’re starting to really play well together, and I’m proud of their effort,” coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said of the team. She said she is excited about the continued aggressive play the girls are showing.

Holyoke 1, Fleming 3

Holyoke lost its first match of the week to undefeated Fleming 16-25, 25-17, 20-25, 24-26.

“I was excited about the way the girls played,” Vieselmeyer said. She noted that it was a tough match and said the girls were focused, played good defense and had a lot of long rallies against the Wildcats.

Fleming took the first set and Holyoke won the second. The Lady Dragons trailed by as many as six points in the third set, but they battled back to tie it at 11 before ultimately losing the set 20-25.

They continued to keep it close in the fourth set, tying the Wildcats four times late in the action before losing 24-26.

Vieselmeyer said she would like to see the team work on pursuing every ball, pointing out that sometimes the hustle plays make all the difference.
