Winning streak continues with victory over Highland

It was the last nonconference game of the Holyoke High School football season, and the Dragons added another shutout to their record before moving into league competition.
The 41-0 win against Highland in Ault on Sept. 21 was described by coach Dusty Sprague as the most complete game they’ve played in the two years he’s been head coach. What was most impressive, he said, was the overall team effort put forth by everyone.
It would be a discredit to both sides to not mention how good a team Highland is — though you might not guess it by Friday’s final score. As Sprague pointed out, the Huskies were a playoff team last year and probably will be again this year. That’s all the more reason for him to be proud of the incredibly physical game his team played against a very good opponent.
Early on in the first quarter, Holyoke’s Michael Ramos caught a 20-yard pass from Miles Sprague for the first touchdown of the game. Alexis Vega’s kick was good, putting HHS ahead 7-0 with 9:04 on the clock.
Holyoke’s next TD came with 3:04 left in the first quarter. Blake Mosenteen made a 2-yard run, which was followed up by another successful kick by Vega.
Going into the second quarter ahead 14-0, the Dragons extended their lead with a 33-yard pass from Sprague to Caleb Deaver with 9:05 on the clock. Another successful kick by Vega meant a lead of 21-0 as the teams left the field for halftime.
