Wray Eagles are no match for Lady Dragon volleyball

Holyoke High School’s varsity volleyball team won big in Wray Friday, Oct. 18.

The Lady Dragons defeated the Eagles in three sets: 25-17, 25-17 and 25-11.

Coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said, “Serving was key for sure,” in Friday’s game. The two players with double digits in serves were junior Kylie Purkeypile, who totaled 22 serves and three aces, and senior Emily Jelden, who had 19 serves and five aces.

Vieselmeyer was also pleased to see a more balanced hitting effort from the team. Sophomore Kristin Vieselmeyer led with 32 spikes, including 12 kills, and freshman Elise Krogmeier added 14 attacks, including nine kills. Setter Jelden racked up 27 assists for kills from 65 sets.

Kristin Vieselmeyer and Krogmeier were also up at the net on defense, with five blocks apiece. Freshman Tamara Penzing and Vieselmeyer each grabbed five digs, and Vieselmeyer led serve receives with 28.
