Yuma upset by Lyons for 2A state volleyball title
No. 6-ranked Lyons was named 2A state volleyball champions after knocking off No. 1-ranked Yuma in the championship game (25-17, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-17).
Yuma had a 25-1 season record heading into the Saturday, Nov. 11, finale at the Denver Coliseum. This was their fourth consecutive championship match, adding a third runner-up finish to their 2015 state title.
In the state semifinals, Yuma beat No. 9 Denver Christian 3-0, while Lyons defeated No. 7 Meeker 3-0.
Lyons had actually lost to No. 10 Wiggins in a five-set game at the end of pool play Saturday but squeeked into the semifinals through tie-breakers.
