This building on the northwest corner of Interocean Avenue and Furry Street was originally Phillips County Hospital. The 40-room hospital was built for Dr. Timmons and opened Oct. 4, 1918. Timmons had previously worked out of the house at 641 S. Baxter Ave. A new Melissa Memorial Hospital was built on the corner of Baxter Avenue and Hale Street, donated to the district by W.E. Heginbotham and First National Bank, and was dedicated July 25, 1965. The current MMH facility at 1001 E. Johnson St. was completed in March of 2008. The original Phillips County Hospital building served as the Phillips County Court House Annex for a number of years and now houses Brandt Chiropractic, Youth Challenge, Star 92.3 and A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center. — Source: Phillips County Museum
