Scheunemann General Merchandise store is pictured in the early 20th century. August Scheunemann, an early homesteader, established a general mercantile store in 1899 in association with L. LeBlanc. The store’s first location was a frame building on the northeast corner of the intersection of Interocean Avenue and Denver Street. In 1907, Scheunemann built and moved into a new and larger brick building on the southeast corner of the intersection of Interocean Avenue and Denver Street. At one time it was the oldest retail business in continuous family operation in Phillips County. — Source: Phillips County Museum
