Lily Magana Velazquez, at left, became a U.S. citizen Feb. 4. She is pictured with her certificate of naturalization, and she said she is very happy with what she has achieved. She said she had a feeling of accomplishment after all the studying and the hard work she put into becoming an American citizen. Lorena Bencomo is also pictured with her certificate of naturalization. She became an American citizen Jan. 7. Snow etches the trees at Homesteaders Park on a cold Wednesday morning, Feb. 10. Dan Kafka, official weather observer for Holyoke, reported five consecutive days from Feb. 11-15 where the high temperature was in single digits — two of those below zero. Pictured at the 53rd anniversary of the founding of the Fidelis Club are, from left, Ollie Stiles, Rose Reimer, Ruth Elsam, Grace Machamer, Beda (Freeman) Scheunemann, Berniece (Waln) Ruby, Myrtle Clayton, Maude Brundige, Mrs. J.M. Lynch Sr., Stella Oliver and Helen Fiedler. The club was organized Nov. 22, 1906. Originally a sewing club, meetings were held two days a month. The club sewed for the Red Cross and knitted sweaters and socks for service members during the Depression and war years. Over the years they contributed to churches, schools, hospitals, and numerous drives and scholarships. They are pictured at the F.G.
