The John Barbour farmstead was 13 miles east and 6 1/2 miles south of Holyoke. His family homesteaded in Phillips County in 1886, and after John married Mary Jane “Mamie” Mathers, the couple moved to the farm southeast of Holyoke in the Pleasant Valley community in 1918, where they resided until retiring and moving into Holyoke in 1944. — Source: Phillips County Museum
