District 79 was established in 1887 when this county was still part of Weld County and originally included the town of Amherst and the area to the west and south. It was consolidated with Amherst and Liberty Bell school districts on Aug. 20, 1917, to form Amherst Consolidated District No. 2, with an enrollment of 122 students.
