This ticket (front and back shown) was used to admit one adult to an April 14, 1936, concert to raise funds to pay the expenses of the Holyoke school band’s trip to Denver to the Music Week contest, the first attempt at sending the local school band to the state contest. The band was composed of 66 musicians, and a number of new instruments which had not yet been played publicly were used in the concert. Admission to the benefit concert was 25 cents, netting more than $40 for their trip. After several weeks of fundraising efforts, the band raised the $235 needed for 17 cars to transport the musicians and their instruments, plus director Earl W. Hornish and their sponsors, to and from Denver and to pay hotel expenses. The Holyoke school band received a “superior” rating in the April 29-30 contest. — Source: Phillips County Museum
