A one-vehicle accident took the life of an 18-year-old male Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Alberto Montez-Aragon of Cope died after being ejected from a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. Two others, Daniella Soto, 16 of Holyoke and Ramon Nevarres, 20 were in the vehicle at the time of the wreck. Colorado State Patrol (CSP) has not identified the driver of the vehicle and didn’t know where Nevarres was from.
The Tahoe was traveling north on Highway 385 approximately one mile south of Julesburg. After going around a right hand curve, the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and traveled up an embankment at about 9:30 p.m.
After rotating in a counter clockwise direction and rolling, the vehicle came to rest off the west side of the road on its passenger side, facing west. Montez-Aragon and Soto were both ejected from the vehicle, according to the CSP.
Alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor in the wreck and seat belts were not used.
Nevarres and Soto were transferred to Scottsbluff, Neb. and listed in serious condition. Montez-Aragon was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Trooper Miller with the CSP investigated the accident.
