|Students give food to benefit those in need|

Elementary students drop canned goods into a box Friday, Dec. 18. Students gathered in the gymnasium to sing Christmas songs and present food donations for the community food drive to help families in need. Instead of the usual gift exchange between classmates, this year Holyoke students each brought canned food to contribute to the holiday cause. Pastor Gary Rahe said 55-60 families in Holyoke will benefit from the donations. Items collected at Holyoke Elementary were combined with donations from several other community members and organizations to distribute to Holyoke families. Monday morning volunteers gathered at Zion Lutheran Church, filling 55 boxes with food and cleaning supplies, each weighing roughly 70 pounds. In addition to the food boxes, families will receive gifts from fellow community members.
