Focused on getting lots of matches for the Dragon wrestlers, Holyoke accomplished that at the Eaton duals Saturday, Feb. 6.

Holyoke won two and lost three Saturday. The Dragons defeated Berthoud 34-33 and Erie 42-27 and lost to Wray 34-48, to Pueblo County 12-61 and to Greeley West 20-54.

Coach Duane Stroh said he was pleased with some of the dual outcomes, and not pleased, in particular, with the loss to Wray.

Heading into regional competition this Friday and Saturday, Stroh said the kids are in good shape, and he’s excited about regionals.

Individual results from last Saturday’s duals follow:

103 lbs.—Frank Diaz went 2-3 for the day. He won a 9-5 decision over Cody Kovaciach of Pueblo County, pinned Austin Benbing of Berthoud in 3:30, was pinned by Justin Vang of Erie in 4:30, was pinned in 2:54 by Austin Titus of Wray and was pinned in 1:47 by Emilo Martinez of Greeley West.

He showed lots of improvement through the day and wrestled lots of good kids, said coach Stroh.

112 lbs.—Mark Edmonds was 5-0. He pinned a Hayden wrestler in 3:57, pinned Alexander Kinsley of Berthoud in 3:50, pinned Jake Burke of Erie in 1:30, won a forfeit in the Wray dual and decisioned Sedrick Boyd of Greeley West 6-0.

He had an outstanding day and an especially good match with his tough opponent from Greeley West, who he took down three times.

125 lbs.—Francisco Diaz was 1-3. He defeated his opponent in the Berthoud dual 11-6, lost a 2-8 match to Luke Callaway of Erie, was pinned in 5:48 by his Wray opponent and was pinned in :54 by Joe Martinez of Greeley West.

Dittmer had a rough day, but a good one for growth, said coach Stroh. In Dittmer’s match with Pueblo County, Stroh said the ref let a potentially dangerous hold go too far, and Dittmer had to injury default out of the match.

135 lbs.—Chad Stroh was 3-0 for an outstanding day. He pinned Alexander Sadlo of Berthoud in 1:49, pinnned Jesse Reska of Erie in 1:43 and won a 14-1 decision over Omar Martinez of Wray.

While he had no wins, Martinez wrestled well, said coach Stroh. He said he would give Martinez his wrestler of the week award, as he never complained and competed in whatever weight class he was needed in.

152 lbs.—Cade Garrison was 5-0 for the day. He won by forfeit over Tyler Quintana of Pueblo County, pinned Jesse Lyman of Berthoud in 3:40, pinned his Erie opponent in 1:40, pinned Cole Crider of Wray in 1:05 and pinned Ben Bellendir of Greeley West in 1:03.

171 lbs.—Luke Garrett was 3-0. He pinned Josh Atkinson of Berthoud in 1:40, pinned his Lyons opponent in 3:00 and pinned Levi Campfield of Wray in 2:54.
