Five HHS Dragons will be making the big trip to the Colorado State Wrestling mats Feb. 18-20 as a result of their efforts at the Feb. 12-13 regional tournament held in Holyoke.

Mark Edmonds and Chad Stroh, at 112 lbs. and 135 lbs. respectively, enter the state tournament as regional champions.

Skyler Dittmer (130 lbs.), Cade Garrison (152 lbs.) and Luke Garrett (171 lbs.) all earned third-place regional finishes in extremely tough brackets.

“All the kids we’re taking really have the chance to go the distance,” said coach Duane Stroh. “They all have a reasonable shot to be on the podium, near the top,” he added.

Senior Chad Stroh is a returning two-time state champ, looking to make it three. Stroh placed second at 112 lbs. as a freshman, was state champion at 119 lbs. in 2008 and state champ at 125 lbs. in 2009.

Edmonds, a sophomore, also takes experience to the state mats, as he placed third at 103 lbs. last year.

Junior Skyler Dittmer is making a return trip to state in the same 130-lb. weight division in which he placed third a year ago.

This is senior Cade Garrison’s first year as a Dragon and his fourth year to qualify for state. He competed at 135 lbs. as a freshman, 140 as a sophomore and qualified for state at 145 lbs. with the Montrose team last year, but didn’t compete due to injury.

Garrett, a senior, is a three-time state qualifier. He went 2-2 at state at 145 lbs. in 2008, and placed fourth at 160 lbs. last year.
