HHS athletes garner awards for fall sports PDF Print E-mail

HHS athletes were recognized for efforts put forth during the fall sports season at the athletic awards program Monday, Nov. 22 at HHS. Sports recognized were golf, softball, volleyball and football. Academic All-State honors were also announced.

HHS athletic/activities director Kimberlee Bennett emceed the evening’s event.


Coach Garrett Gordon and assistant Pat Vasa awarded letters to the golfers. They include senior Brian DeBoer; juniors Kent Hiller, Christopher Bieber, Coleton Spitz and Brent Vasa; and sophomores Deyten Klein and Keaton Arkulari.

Juniors Matt Wittman and Caleb Kafka and freshman Wyatt Bishop received participation awards.

Arkulari was the lone state qualifier for the team in 2010. He was also named to the All-Conference team. Hiller and Klein received honorable mention.


Coaches Ashley Clayton and Corey Zeiler presented awards to the state qualifying softball team and also acknowledged the assistance of coach Steven Ortner early in the season.

The team qualified for its first state tournament and fell to the eventual state champions in the first round.

Those earning letters include seniors Catrina Krueger, Marci Vasa, Macey Pierce, Makenzie Ault, Becca Brandt and Briar Bergner; juniors Laura Gerk, Karci Lockwood, Ashley Campbell, Jordan Zeiler, Marlee Boehm and manager Amy Krogmeier; sophomore Chandler Gerk; and freshman Alyssa Killin.

Participation awards were given to seniors Trixi Presich and Ilse Kamstra; and juniors Brooke Parker and Gabi Pascua.

Those on the team earning All-Conference honors were Vasa, Ault and Campbell. Pierce received honorable mention.


Coaches Sandra Rahe and Tammie Timm presented the 2010 volleyball team with their awards.

Receiving letters were seniors Lauren Blomme, Heather Duester, Mallory Bennett, Brandi Orand, Jessica Pell and Patricia Adams; juniors Whitni Redman, KrisAnna Ham and Erin Lebsack; sophomores Molly Brandt, Erin Vieselmeyer and manager Rachel Schneider; and freshmen Maddie King and manager Brenda Hernandez.

Participation recipients were sophomores Elissa Baker, Lindsay Helgoth and manager Rebecca Weaver; and freshmen Tia Huffman, Jacinda Krueger, Ashley Humphreys, Araceli Banuelos, Audi Peña, Brittney Prottsman and Malena McWilliams.

Bennett received All Conference honors for the team.


Coach Rod Trumper along with assistants Aaron Mosenteen, John Ortner, Aaron Sprague and Russ Sprague presented the 2010 HHS football team members with their post season awards. They also acknowledged volunteer trainer Tracy Trumper.

Earning letters were seniors Dustin Carrick, Seth Baker, Chris Yanez, Perry Garrett and trainer Kaylee Groshans; juniors Reid Baumgartner, Broc Pelle, Austin Killin, Alex Quintana and Parker Redfern; sophomores Jaydin Goldenstein, Brett Cumming, Alfredo Santos, Ben Martinez, Jesus Hermosillo, Astolfo Rojo, Chris Pell, Ricky Guernsey and trainer Alyssa Cordova; and freshmen Trevor Dalton, Saul Ramos, Carlos Diaz, Ryan Krogmeier, Alan Madrid, Logan Tharp and trainer Shaylee Krueger.

Receiving participation awards were senior Joel Rodriguez; junior Nick Mitchell; sophomores Logan Zeiler and Matt Golden; and freshmen Tanner Smith, Jacob Vasa, Andrew Kent and Ryan Parker.

Pelle, Hermosillo and Cumming were named to the All-

Conference list while Rojo, Redfern and Killin received honorable mention.

Academic All-State honors

Kyle Bules recognized junior and senior athletes earning Academic All-State Honors.

Those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher and named to the first team were Makenzie Ault, Reid Baumgartner, Mallory Bennett, Marlee Boehm, Becca Brandt, Lauren Blomme, Brian DeBoer, Laura Gerk, Austin Killin, Amy Krogmeier, Catrina Krueger, Macey Pierce, Whitni Redman and Jordan Zeiler.

Those with a GPA 3.3-3.59 earning honorable mention were Ashley Campbell, Kaylee Groshans, KrisAnna Ham, Karci Lockwood and Marci Vasa.
