 Lady Dragons are gaining ground and confidence just in time for district play. On Tuesday, Feb. 17 the HHS girls’ basketball team took a three-point win, beating Wiggins 44-41.
 “It was important for us to get this win,” said Coach Arlan Scholl. “It gave us the momentum and confidence that we need to go into the District tournament.” 
 Neck-and-neck through the first quarter, both teams were tied at the end of it at nine. Holyoke pulled ahead of the Tigers by six by the end of the first half though, as they put 13 points on the scoreboard, for a 22-16 halftime score. Shelby Beavers was two for two at the free-throw line in the second quarter.
 As the game progressed, the Dragons made sure not to let up on their opponent as they kept the lead. In the third quarter of play, both Marissa Smith and Beavers each rolled in a three-point basket for the Dragons. Maddie Starkebaum also made three two-point baskets for Holyoke in the third.   
 For the remainder of the game, Holyoke held Wiggins to take the game, 44-41. In the fourth quarter Katie Hoffner landed a basket from behind the arc.
 Leading scorer for the game was Starkebaum with 16 points. She was also the top rebounder for the Dragons with 11.    
 Scholl noted, “We played a much better all around game,” but also commented, “We still need to do a better job of rebounding and then take care of the ball and cut down on turnovers.”
 Holyoke was behind Wiggins when it came to rebounds. The Dragons had 24, while Wiggins had 28.
 However, HHS had a better free throw percentage, making 4-6 for 66 percent, while Wiggins made 5-18 for 27 percent.
 Also on a more positive note, the local girls had a better three-point percentage, making 4-11 baskets for 36 percent from behind the arc. Wiggins only made 2-8 three pointers for 25 percent. Smith had two three-point shots for the game.      
 HHS had nine total turnovers, while Wiggins had 15.
 The Dragons had 11 steals against Wiggins, while the Tigers only had the chance for three.
 Holyoke led the game in assists with 12. Smith led the team with four.
