Colorado High School Activities Association Record #76 (Team Defensive Average Per Game) is now held by the Holyoke Dragons.
The record on the books, as of last December was 35.5 points per game that Cheraw allowed its opponents for the 2001-02 season.
HHS held its opponents to an average of 34.30 points per game to go on the books for the new record.
Record #77 (Fewest Points Allowed Per Game) will find Holyoke in a tie for third with 14 points. The Dragons defeated Wray 28-14 in the season opener Dec. 2, 2008.
Lamar holds the record with 10 in 1998, and Weld Central had a game where its opponents scored 12 in 1997.
Holyoke’s 14-point score for its opponents ties with Kit Carson’s feat in both 1991 and 1995 and with Custer County’s achievement clear back in 1930.
The Dragons had two other games this season where they held opponents to scores in the teens.
HHS defeated Merino 71-17 on Jan. 9. That would put the Dragons in the seventh-place slot in Record #77. In addition, the Dragons topped Fleming 54-18 on Feb. 14, which would tie for ninth.
