Dragon tracksters open season at Akron Relays PDF Print E-mail

 Twenty-two Dragon tracksters kicked off their season at a unique relay meet hosted by Akron on Saturday, March 21. For this season opener, teams of four competed together in each event.
 Coach Sandra Rahe reported the boys did very well but placed seventh out of seven teams with only four boys competing for HHS. The girls earned sixth place out of seven teams.
 Rahe noted the weather wasn’t too bad but was a little windy.
 “We will be focusing on improving our times/distances each week,” said Rahe. “Our focus over the next two weeks will be to increase endurance and strength.”
 First place medals were claimed by the team of Mallory Bennett, Stephanie Ramirez, Shelby Beavers and Sarah Heermann in the long jump.
Boys’ Results
 4x100 meter relay—Brandon Oosthuysen, Taylor Haidle, Alex Quintana and Jose Goytia, fifth.
 4x200 meter relay—Oosthuysen, Haidle, Quintana and Goytia, fifth.
 Sprint medley—Oosthuysen, Haidle, Quintana and Goytia, second.
 Long jump—Oosthuysen, Haidle, Quintana and Goytia, fifth.
Girls’ Results
 Long jump—Bennett, Ramirez, Beavers and Heermann, first.
 Triple jump—Kaylee Groshans, Marci Vasa, Catrina Krueger and Emily Bradley, fifth.
 Distance relay—Bennett, Nicole Brandt, Beavers and Heermann, fifth.
 4x800 meter relay—Groshans, Brandt, Ramirez and Carolina Hermosillo, fifth.
 4x200 meter varsity relay—Heermann, Vasa, Heather Duester and Marissa Smith, second.
 4x200 meter freshman/sophomore relay—Erin Lebsack, Krueger, Bennett and KrisAnna Ham, second.
 4x100 meter relay—Smith, Duester, Bradley and Ham, fourth.
 Sprint medley­­—Smith, Duester, Bradley and Vasa, second.
Upcoming Action
 Due to extreme winds, the Yuma meet scheduled for Tuesday, March 24 was canceled. The Dragons will travel to Burlington to compete in a Saturday, April 4 meet with events beginning at 10 a.m. The following Tuesday, April 7, the team will compete at Yuma with events scheduled to begin at 12 noon. Both are state pre-qualifying meets.
