|37 race at AWANA Grand Prix event|

Thirty-seven cars of all shapes and colors raced down the track at the AWANA Grand Prix held Saturday, April 18 at the Peerless. With a new track and even more cars than last year, the second year for this event was marked a success.
The track, connected to a computer, calculated the speed and time of each car racing. The fastest car reached an average of 193 miles per hour with a time of 2.6 seconds.
Trophies were awarded for the top three cars in each category as well as best design for girls and boys.
For AWANA Sparks (K-2nd grade), Andrea Becerra took first with her car Pinky, Jesse Vasa earned second with JV and Matthew Oberle got third with Fast-n-Furious.
In the T&T group (3rd-6th grade), first place honors were claimed by Josilyn Lutze with Jeff Gordon, Kaitlyn Kent grabbed second with Pinky II and Taylor Goldenstien’s Red Bull got third.
First place in the open category was claimed by Darrell Tomky with Dr. T, Mark Lutze took second with Cop Car and Troy Kent’s Holy Fire landed him at third.
Best design was awarded to Makenzie Martin for her car Plum Crazy and to Rylan Archibeque for his car Lightning.
Participants and their families also enjoyed a film on race car drivers as well as a barbeque lunch.
