Holyoke will be the home to two days of great baseball Friday-Saturday, May 4-5 as it hosts the Class 2A District 7 Baseball Tournament. Holyoke’s own HHS Dragon baseball team will be spectators Friday as they have earned the No. 1 seed and received a first-round bye. They are looking to dip their toes into regional tournament play after failing to reach last year. They are scheduled to face the winner of the No. 5 Akron/No. 4 Sedgwick County game which will be played Friday at noon. Holyoke’s semifinal game will be played Saturday at 11 a.m. On the other side of the bracket, No. 3 Yuma will play No. 6 Burlington at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. That game will be followed by the final quarterfinal game at 5 p.m. which pits No. 2 Wray against No. 7 Wiggins. The second semifinal game will be played Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Class 2A District 7 championship game will be played Saturday at 4 p.m. The two teams appearing in the championship game will advance to the regional tournament. This is the second consecutive year Holyoke has held the No. 1 seed. Last year, they received a bye but were upset by Akron in the semifinals. The previous two seasons, Holyoke entered as the No. 4 seed and advanced to knock off then No. 1 seed Wiggins, both years. Holyoke Enterprise May 3, 2012 |
