Dragons split Wray doubleheader PDF Print E-mail

    Holyoke Dragon baseball team split another doubleheader with Wray in the team’s last home games of the regular season.
    HHS took the first game by one, beating the Eagles 5-4. The Dragons were then tipped in Game Two, losing to WHS, 2-6.

    After a scoreless first inning, Wray put the first run up on the board in the top of the second, but Holyoke responded with two runs in the bottom.
    Three more scoreless innings followed, with neither team able to push any runners across home plate. Finally, in the sixth, the Eagles managed three more runs.
    Fortunately, when it was the Dragons’ turn at bat in the bottom, they were also able to score three, regaining the lead by one.
    With Wray unable to score in the last inning, Holyoke held on for the win with a final score of 5-4.
    Logan Krueger pitched six innings and was credited with the win. He had 10 strikeouts, no earned runs, four bases on balls and had only seven hits out of 30 at bats.
    Austin Tharp also pitched one inning. He had three strikeouts and no hits.

    Firing back in Game Two, the Wray Eagles took an early lead by scoring three runs in the first inning. Holyoke remained off the boards until the bottom of the third, when they earned their first of only two runs for the game.
    Already ahead by two, the Eagles doubled their lead in the fifth. The Dragons put up their other run in the sixth.
    In the seventh and final inning, Wray pushed across one more player, keeping their advantage at four. They then held the Dragons scoreless in the bottom to hold on to the 6-2 victory.
    Tharp and Krueger scored Holyoke’s two runs in Game Two. Tharp was three for four at bat, and Krueger hit the team’s only double of the day.
    Tharp went the distance on the mound, pitching nine strikeouts, two earned runs and had nine hits out of 32 at bats.
