HHS to graduate 36 on Sunday PDF Print E-mail

    Thirty-six students in Holyoke High School’s Class of 2009 will be recognized at Commencement exercises this Sunday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in the HHS gym.
    A Baccalaureate service will begin at 1 p.m. in the HHS auditorium, sponsored by the Holyoke Ministerial Alliance.
    Class of 2009 valedictorian honors go to Dylan Bradley. There is no salutatorian this year as Bradley is the only senior who took the required five Advanced Placement or college-credit courses in core subject areas in order to be eligible for the valedictorian and salutatorian honors.
Baccalaureate
    Lou Encinias, pastor of First Christian Church of Holyoke, will serve as speaker for the Baccalaureate service Sunday.
    Additionally, a trio of senior girls including LeAnne McWilliams, Flor Varela and Alyshia Durbin will sing I Will Remember You at the program. A student slide show of the seniors will also be shown.
Commencement
    In addition to the presentation of diplomas and scholarships, the commencement ceremony will be highlighted by special music and recognition of citizenship award winners by American Legion Post 90 and its Auxiliary.
    I Hope You Dance will be sung by the HHS choir, and the band will play The Final Countdown during the program. Processional music will feature the JR/SR high bands. The band is under the direction of Pat Wiebers, and the choir Marcia Dalton.
    Counselor Summer Maloney will anounce scholarships, while school board members Kris Camblin and Dr. Jeff Tharp will hand out diplomas. HHS Principal Susan Ortner will present the class.
    Supt. Stephen Bohrer will give the welcome at Sunday’s graduation, and a valedictory address will be made by Dylan Bradley.
    Most of the folding chair section at commencement will be reserved for immediate family members of the senior class. Immediate family includes parents, siblings and grandparents.
    Members of the Class of 2009 are Diana Iris Baeza, Brianna Marie Bennett, Dylan Louis Bradley, Kurtis Richard Brown, Michal Lindstrom Brown, Phawn Nicole Carper, Ashley Dawn Cose, Tessa Nikkelle Reynolds-Dizmang, Alyshia Renne Durbin, Lizbeth Favela Figueroa, Brett Phillip Gerk, Chelsy Renee Gomez.
    Sarah Tynan Hamaker, Trent Ryan Harshbarger, Katherine Anne Hoffner, Coltin Eugene Houghtelling, Aaron Kramer, Kent Darren Loutensock, LeAnne Lynae McWilliams, Vanessa Nishi, Brandon Emray Price, Eveliina Maria Annikki Rantanen, Samantha Jean Whitedove Redfern.
    Harlee Danielle Renner, Krista Nichole Schafer, Dag Erik Johannes Scharin, Kelsey Joanne Scott, Madeleine Annette Starkebaum, Austin Ryan Tharp, Flor Iveth Varela, Colby Alan Wailes, Kendra Kayleigh Walz, Dustin Jack Wieland, Karla Harumy Cruz Wislar, Mitchell Eugene Wittman and Sheng Xue Zhi.
    Motto for the Class of 2009 is “Life brings us tears, smiles and memories—the tears dry, the smiles fade, but the memories last forever.” Class colors are hunter green and silver, and the flower is the calla lily.
    Senior class officers are Phawn Carper, president; Michal Brown, vice president; Krista Schafer, secretary; Kelsey Scott, treasurer; and Sarah Hamaker, student council representative.
    Senior members of National Honor Society are Dylan Bradley, Kelsey Scott, Krista Schafer, LeAnne McWilliams, Phawn Carper, Diana Baeza, Karla Cruz, Maddie Starkebaum and Flor Varela.
    Junior class grand marshalls are Chasity Pelle and Kyle Carper, while ushers are Megan Colglazier, Molly Fricke, Duncan Brandt and Taylor Haidle.
