Dr. John Elliff and Denny Dressman, authors of “Sterling Heroes of World War II,” will be in Holyoke at Inklings Book Store’s Christmas Tea Saturday, Dec. 8, starting at 9 a.m.
Their book was launched July 4 this year, and the two look forward to signing copies in Holyoke this weekend.
“Sterling Heroes” is a unique collection of first-person accounts of World War II service.
Thirty-six men from Sterling and surrounding Logan County shared their very personal experiences in video-recorded interviews conducted by Elliff, a Sterling ophthalmologist who is now retired. Beginning in 2000, Elliff’s project spanned more than 10 years.
Elliff engaged longtime journalist and author Dressman to edit transcripts of the interviews and produce a remarkable history of the period that touched the lives of all Americans.
Dressman has been in the newspaper business 43 years and has authored four books.
Dressman said the collection of veterans in “Sterling Heroes” represents a remarkable microcosm of America during the war years of the early 1940s. “As it was Lived—in their own Words” aptly describes this book of World War II experiences.
