Phillips County Commissioners recently announced a $3,000 grant received by Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, to go toward the Phillips County Event Center.

In an effort to renovate and restore the multipurpose room at the Peerless Center, members of the Golden Plains Recreation Center’s board of directors are currently seeking funds for a new “Wall of Fame” that is to be constructed at the facility.

Mark Farnsworth, manager of Highline Electric Association of Holyoke, recently announced that Highline’s board of directors approved a capital credit refund to the membership of $1,333,000.70, returning 100 percent of the margins earned by Highline’s members in 1987.

Andrew Gordon received his Boy Scout Eagle Rank at a special ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 7, after participating in the local Scout program for 10 years.

Preliminary findings on benefit/cost ratios of possible water transfer projects from the South Platte to Frenchman River basins were presented to area NRD and irrigation district representatives in Imperial, Neb. Dec. 14.

Bruce’s Tire and Muffler is moving to 440 E. Denver St., west of Beck’s Bargain Barn.

Approximately 50 individuals attended the Chemigation Forum sponsored by the Holyoke Young Farmers Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 15.

Dec. 21, 1972

Randall Ortner won the district FFA award for excellence in sugar beet production at the Great Western Sugar Company’s annual Northeast Colorado-Kansas District 4-H and FFA Achievement Banquet Dec. 16.

Carl Brandt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Brandt of Holyoke, will be ordained a Christian minister Sunday, Dec. 24 at the Church of Christ in Julesburg.

A live nativity pageant will be presented by children of the fifth- through eighth-grade evening youth group of the Christian Church on the church lawn Friday, Dec. 22 at 7:30, 8 and 8:30 p.m.

Dec. 20, 1962

Light rain began to fall in Holyoke yesterday afternoon and turned to snow at about 4 p.m. The moisture is a boon to the winter wheat and barley crops.

Miss Karen Vyrostek of Holyoke was a finalist in the annual Colorado Make It Yourself With Wool contest held recently in Denver and received wool material to make herself a dress and coat.
