The Senior Buckley Bombers opened up the 2009 season in the Gering, Neb. tournament going 1-3.
Bombers won game one over Chadron 23-12, lost game two to Gering 12-3, were defeated by North Platte in game three 8-5 and lost game four to Chadron, 9-3.
The Bombers were short-handed both Friday and Saturday, but got some great help from some juniors. Ryan Dee picked up the only win on the mound, going three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and giving up one run.
Offensively, the Bombers were led by Zack Hansen, who was eight for 12 with five RBIs, a double and a home run.
Logan Krueger also had a good tournament, hitting seven for 12, with six RBIs and four doubles. Austin Ochloa was seven for 14 with three RBIs.
“Defensively, the team struggled getting in the dugout after getting two outs,” said coach Marcus Kammer. “In all four games there was one inning that killed.”
The team had nine runs scored on them in the third inning of game one, eight runs in the third inning of game two, four runs in the second in game three and six runs in the first inning of game four—most of which happened after two outs.
Twelve errors were committed by the Bombers over the weekend.
“It was a tough start, but we are ready to move on, and get to full strength,” said coach Kammer.
The Bombers were scheduled to play Wednesday, June 3 at Chappell, Neb. against Alliance, Neb., juniors at 5 p.m., followed by seniors at 7 p.m.
