|Bombers beat Alliance|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Senior Buckley Bombers team of Chappell, Neb. earned their second victory of the season in a five-inning affair against Alliance, Neb. on the home field Wednesday, June 3.
The reason for the five innings was due to a short Alliance roster, as three or four of their top players were gone to a camp.
The final score was 3-2, with the Bombers sneaking in the final run in the bottom of the fifth to nab the one-point win.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Buckley Bombers had yet to score, having fallen behind Alliance 0-2. Then Tyler Dale hit a triple, running home the first batter of the game for the home team.
Logan Krueger of Holyoke and Dale each had one more RBI during the game.
In the bottom of the fifth, Deryk Russell hit the ball to the short-stop, who threw it to the first baseman. Meanwhile, Kendall Kroeger, who was on third, headed for the home plate, narrowly beating the throw from the first baseman.
Holyoke’s Austin Tharp threw the whole game, striking out seven, walking four and giving up two runs—both earned.
The Senior Bombers’ record for the season, following their triumph over Alliance, is 2-3. The team was scheduled to travel to Chadron, Neb. last weekend, June 5-7, to compete in a woodbat tournament. Two more home games were also scheduled for Tuesday, June 9 against Scottsbluff, Neb. and Wednesday, June 10 against McCook, Neb.
Up next, the Senior Bombers will compete in a woodbat tourney at Sidney, Neb. Friday-Sunday, June 12-14. They will also play at Ogallala, Neb. Wednesday, June 17 and at Fort Morgan Thursday, June 18.
